OUR SERVICES
Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork

One-hour (a full 60 minutes), half hour (30 minute) and 90 minute sessions are available. A specific problem is addressed in a half hour. Ninety minutes is enough time for a full body massage with time to focus on a problem area. Your input is encouraged throughout your session.
Mystic River Acupuncture offers a variety therapeutic massage styles.
Therapeutic Massage
This is a basic massage customized to your needs. You may choose to have a total body massage or opt for focusing on specific areas. Pressure ranges from light to deep, depending on your needs. You can combine Swedish stye spa massage with deep tissue, a more vigorous massage with intense pressure, according to the types of discomfort you experience in different parts of your body. Compression of tissues, as well as kneading, is used in therapeutic massage.
Hot Stone Massage
Hot Stone (or Healing Stone) Massage is a Swedish massage with heated stones incorporated into the routine. Heated stones are placed on tense muscles or used to knead a tight area. Warmth from the stones softens muscles as the massage melts away tension. Heat should always feel comfortable. Be sure to tell your therapist if the stones are too hot.
Medical Massage
Medical Massage is result oriented and specifically directed to resolve conditions that have been diagnosed by a physician. The massage is focused only on the areas related to the diagnosis and doctor’s prescription. Non-prescribed medical-style massage can be administered to address the client’s needs where assessment shows soft-tissue imbalances.
Pregnancy and Postpartum Massage
Massage is a wonderful way to relieve aches and pains during pregnancy, especially when the mother is trying to avoid pharmaceutical medications that may harm her baby. Pregnancy massage is great for back pain, sciatica, and other discomforts that can accompany pregnancy. It can also provide deep relaxation to promote a healthy birthing experience.
Combining massage with acupuncture during your pregnancy is good for you and good for your baby. After the baby is born postpartum massage will relax the new mother and help relieve aches and pains from the birthing experience.

Sports Massage
Sports massage is used to prepare athletes training for major events and to enhance healing from sports injuries. Many athletes find massage an essential part of their training program. Regular bodywork promotes good circulation in muscles used when competing at a high level. Massage enhances ability to focus and reduces apprehension that may accompany performance.
For injuries, massage can reduce healing time, enabling the athlete to get back to training sooner. Massage can be used in conjunction with other medical intervention, including physical therapy or even surgery.
Cupping Massage
Therapeutic cupping is combined with Swedish massage. Cups are applied on one area while therapist works on another. Cupping will enhance pain relief provided by massage and makes the experience even more relaxing.
Chair Massage
Chair massage is given with the client sitting fully clothed in a forward leaning massage chair with knee, face, and hand supports. You may have seen this in airports and at health fairs. Chair massage is most often used for back and neck. Treatments are about 15 minutes.
Table Top Thai
An ancient practice to facilitate relaxation and flexibility made modern by bringing it up from the floor onto the massage table.

While Thai Massage is traditionally performed on a floor mat, Table Top Thai takes place on a massage table. The therapist guides the client through a series of passive stretches coupled with compression and acupressure to stimulate energy pathways in the body. Thai massage utilizes compression, stretching, acupressure, passive stretching and yoga techniques to facilitate relaxation and flexibility. The recipient is fully clothed (wear something comfortable).
Table Top Thai is a great introduction to massage for those who are new to it, or who may feel intimidated by a traditional Western massage.
Raindrop Ceremony
The Raindrop Ceremony is a beautifully simple yet deeply rejuvenating treatment involving the luxurious application of 9 medicinal essential oils. The healing oils are offered as a blessing to the feet, spine and back utilizing massage techniques, including the use of hot stones, to promote deep relaxation and balance. The effects of the treatment can be profound, lasting several days, and can include deep relaxation, pain relief, and release of toxins, energetic rebalancing, and immune system strengthening.
